Man abducted in hail of bullets outside Olympic Centre

Local police are investigating an attack in which a man was fired upon and dragged into a waiting car. Blood left at the scene suggests he was injured.

Brakpan police are searching for a man who was shot at and then abducted outside the Olympic Centre in the Brakpan CBD on the evening of November 14.

The victim was sitting in his vehicle at the corner of High and Victoria Streets when he came under fire. He attempted to escape from the hail of bullets, but the shooters caught him and dragged him to their vehicle, a silver Volkswagen Golf 4 with an unknown registration number, and drove off with him.

A witness told police that three men with firearms emerged from the Golf and “just started shooting towards the victim’s vehicle”.

“The victim is believed to have sustained injuries from the gunshots because there was blood found on the pavement where he was dragged by the armed men,” said Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer, Constable Audrey Buthelezi.

“So far, the motive for the shooting is unknown, and police are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to finding the victim and arresting the suspects to come forward.”Cases of attempted murder and kidnapping have been opened.

Information can be reported to Brakpan police on 011 744 4111, or by calling 08600 10111 or using the MySAPS App.
