Brakpan SAPS Youth Desk leads GBV and crime awareness campaign in Dalview

Brakpan SAPS Youth Crime Prevention Desk members took their message of crime prevention and gender-based violence awareness to Dalview shoppers, engaging with the community and promoting safer neighbourhoods through education and visibility.

Brakpan SAPS Youth Crime Prevention Desk (YCPD) members recently conducted an awareness campaign focused on gender-based violence (GBV) and crime prevention at the SuperSpar shopping centre in Dalview.

The youth were chaperoned by Brakpan SAPS social crime prevention and communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi, and domestic violence coordinator Constable Lesego Mafa, and supported by CPF Sector 1 and 2 members and Siyabangena patrollers.

The objective of the event was to educate, alert, and encourage the community members about the current crime trends, including gender-based violence and femicide.

The members spread and ensured adequate visibility throughout the shopping center, interacting and handing out pamphlets to shoppers.

Complaints and concerns around the shopping center were also addressed by the SAPS members.

The business owners welcomed and appreciated the law enforcers’ presence, especially during one of the busiest weekends.

There were no reported illicit activities at the centre and surrounding areas for the day.

Brakpan SAPS extends its gratitude to the management of SuperSpar (VC Spar) Dalview and Afriforum for their generous support in providing food and refreshments for the team.
