Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Man shot and robbed in Brenthurst
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from October 2 to 4.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – A printer and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a business along Hastings Avenue.
- Police responded to a shooting incident along Tweedy Road in Brenthurst, in which a man was robbed of his cellphone and shot in the leg.
Police were notified at around 06:00. It is reported that two men working in the area heard a gunshot, and then found the victim nearby lying on the ground.
He had also sustained an injury to one of his hands. The victim was taken by ambulance to hospital. An attempted murder docket was opened.
- Valuables were stolen from a vehicle parked at an address along Shepstone Street in Brenthurst.
An attempt was also made to steal the vehicle. It had been pushed from where it was parked, and the ignition was damaged.
- A welding machine, a grinder and other tools were stolen from a residence in the Mgongo informal settlement near Brakpan North.
Saturday – A home on Skamel Road in Dalpark was burgled of laptops, a TV and other household items.
- A motorist and his passenger were robbed of their cellphones while stationary at a traffic light on Rangeview Road in Dalpark.
The incident took place at about 13:00. They were approached by a man who was armed with an unidentified weapon, who demanded their cellphones.
- A pedestrian was robbed by three men in Leachville at about 20:00.
The victim was walking along New Kleinfontein Road when he saw three men, one of whom approached him and asked for a cigarette.
The victim told him he didn’t have any cigarettes and the man pulled out a knife and demanded the victim’s belongings.
The man was joined by the other two, who were also armed with knives. The victim was searched and robbed of his cellphone and R100. The trio then fled the scene.

Sunday – The driver of a blue Toyota Rav4 was robbed of the vehicle at about 19:00 by four hijackers along Heidelberg Road (R23) near Dalpark.
The driver’s path was blocked by a stationary white Hilux at a stop sign. An occupant from the vehicle got out and approached the victim, threatening him with a gun.
An unidentified vehicle then pulled up behind the victim’s car, and two men climbed out of this vehicle. The men pulled the victim from his car and forced him into the Hilux.
He was then driven to an open veld in Vosloorus, where they stopped and the victim was let go. They drove off as the victim ran away.
- A taxi driver and commuters came to the aid of a man who was threatened with a knife and had his cellphone taken after dropping it in a hurry to get away from his attacker.
The incident took place along Lemmer Road in Vulcania at about 16:30. The victim was walking to work when the man approached him, pointed a knife at him and demanded his cellphone.
The victim ran away and saw a taxi nearby. He got into the taxi, but dropped his cellphone.
The taxi driver then asked him what had happened. After explaining that the man had tried to rob him, the taxi driver stopped and the passengers got out and started following the man, who was seen with the victim’s cellphone in his possession.
The group followed the man to a house, where an altercation took place, with the man allegedly assaulting the victim.
Police were called but the man managed to flee the scene. The victim’s phone was returned to him and the knife was seized.
