Brakpan SAPS sergeant suspected of family shooting
Police responded to a shooting along McMillan Avenue where multiple family members were shot.
A woman was killed and four others, including two children, were injured in a shooting at a home in Brakpan North last night (Monday).
The suspect is allegedly the woman’s husband, who is a police sergeant stationed at Brakpan SAPS.
According to reports, local SAPS officers were on duty attending to complaints when, at around 20:15, they were alerted to a shooting at an address along McMillan Avenue.
They proceeded to the given address, where they were met by a member from a private security company.
Upon entering the premises, officers discovered that three women had been shot. One of the victims was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
She was later identified as the wife of a police sergeant stationed at Brakpan SAPS. The other two female victims, the wife’s mother and a domestic worker, both sustained gunshot wounds.
In addition, two minor siblings, aged 15 and 13, were also shot.
It is alleged that all the victims were shot by the sergeant, who was not present at the scene.
The wife is believed to have sustained three gunshot wounds. Her body was found in the bedroom, while the other women were found in the passage of the house.
After being shot, the children fled the scene and sought help at a nearby residence on Walkden Street.
All injured victims were transported to different hospitals for medical treatment.
Upon seeking further information from Brakpan SAPS, the Brakpan Herald was referred to provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, who had not provided a response at the time of publication.
This is a developing story.
