Minnebron 4 Minnebron walk inspires community engagement

Residents joined the Minnebron 4 Minnebron 5km walk, demonstrating commitment to community improvement, from park upkeep to future educational and recreational facilities.

MINNEBRON – A suburban community initiative, From Minnebron 4 Minnebron, hosted a 5km fun walk for the community on March 14. While the group in attendance was small, possibly due to the cold and overcast weather, participants remained motivated and completed the course with vigour.

The initiative, an idea of Minnebron resident Stanley Kelly, is more than just a periodic fun walk. Last June, after the fun walk, the initiative distributed hot meals to those in need using donations from the community.

At the time, Kelly expressed his hopes to shake things up in Minnebron, aiming to maintain the park along Eric Holdtman Street, which is widely used by the community.

True to his word, when residents arrived for the fun walk on Saturday, the park had been neatly cut.

Another goal regarding the park is to move exercise equipment from a nearby, unused open-air gym to this park, where it is more likely to be used.

According to Kelly, approval for the move has been granted.

Another goal is to install a shipping container in the park where learners can do their homework after school, print projects and read from a small library. This plan is still in the works as certain applications and approvals are needed to convert and erect such a container.
