The plastic squatter camp next to the Weltevreden rubbish disposal site would never have existed if the council, and the “security guards” at the disposal site, had never allowed the squatters to remove anything from the disposal site in the first place.
These actions are illegal and the culprits should have been arrested the first time they attempted to remove anything from the site.
However, they turned a blind eye and have now even seemed to install a gate where the palisade fencing has been stolen, to allow access to the disposal site, with the “security guards” merrily stopping and searching and directing taxpayers who legally enter the disposal site.
By allowing the squatters to illegally “mine” the dump site, the council and those in charge of the site have created a health risk and a squatter problem.
These squatters also do some illegal mining in between all, especially across from The Rock Raceway, where speed cops also merrily stop taxpaying motorists and turn a blind eye to their civil duty of enforcing by-laws, like not removing anything from the disposal dump site, and not allowing illegal squatting and littering.
If the town council wanted to be “green” and have the disposal site mined for plastic etcetera to be recycled, they should have set aside a piece of land on the site, where the less fortunate could then rummage through society’s wasteful waste and sell it back to the council (placing it on the allocated site on the dump) and the council could then sell it again, to recyclers.
But no, we expect too much out-of-the-box thinking from our democratically elected civil servants.
They should have had security stop anyone from illegally entering the site, instead of just sitting on chairs at the site’s legal entrance and now and again lifting a boom gate.
My last question is directed at the opposition parties’ councillors: why are you not raising this problem at council meetings or making any public noise about it?
Or are you guys also just eating from the trough supplied to you by voting citizens?
