Lots to complain about

''Brakpan resident'' writes by email: A couple of weeks ago the story in the Herald about the people living in tents shook my world ('Fighting for survival', February 6).

However, it was even a bigger shock to read that they were removed.

My question is: what about the homeless man on the front page of the Herald on February 27 (Bejaarde se huis is net ‘n bed op ‘n sypaadjie — leef al twee jaar lank so) or even better, what about the homeless lady who has a shack right next to the police station?

What surprises me is that the people at the dam were removed.

What about the other homeless people who also live there illegally?

What about the plastic squatter camp in Anzac?

Don’t these people live there illegally?

When and where do human rights apply and to whom?

The next complaint is also something I’ve noticed — the drug dealers in Brakpan and their way of letting drug users know where to find them.

Look at street lamps, poles and electric wires all over town, if you see a tekkie or shoe around these poles, lamps or electric wire, it means that drugs are available there.

We, as residents, should stand up and fight for our community and the safety of our children.

Maybe the general public doesn’t know about this or maybe they just don’t care.
