It’s enough to make you flip your lid
The manhole covers in Gordon Road were recently replaced, but might be the work of a criminal syndicate.

The manhole covers in Gordon Road were recently replaced, which is great, but the contractor or person who did the job had no knowledge of how to measure the covers.
The covers do not fit the holes – some have shifted due to traffic, while some manholes are now completely open, which is highly dangerous.
This is absolutely appalling and I really hope that those responsible were not paid for work done.
A comment was requested from the Ekurhuleni Metro and spokesperson Themba Gadebe responded as follows:
“No instruction was given to any contractor by any Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality employee from our water depot to replace the manhole frame and lid in question,” he said.
“This might be the work of a criminal syndicate that is stealing municipal manhole frames and lids.
“We have given a contractor instruction now to repair the manhole.”
