Dube eyes Joburg Open place
After earning his 2014 Sunshine Tour card by placing third at the Vusi Ngubeni Qualifying School, at Crown Mines Golf Club, Royal Oak Country Club professional and golf director Kenneth Dube now has his eye on a place in the field at the Joburg Open.
Dube shot rounds of 69, 71, 75 and 72 at the qualifying school, to finish in the top 40 and become eligible for the 2014 Big Easy Tour.
He now needs to play a qualifying event in order to secure a spot at the Joburg Open, which is held at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club from February 6 to 9.
“My aim in 2014 is to represent Royal Oak by playing the best golf that I can,” he said.
He also aims to get more of the more than 40 active junior golfers at the Kenneth Dube Golf Academy playing more tournaments.
“The only way for them to learn is to compete, so that is a big goal of mine for the year,” Dube added.
The Herald visited Dube at Royal Oak on Saturday, January 25, and spoke to nine-year-old Tristan Sanson, who is one of Dube’s upcoming young players.
The youngster, from Selection Park Primary School, in Springs, said she loves playing the game.
“I love having Kenneth as a coach, because he makes things fun for me,” she said.
Dube added that the future is certainly looking bright for Royal Oak Country Club.
