Sunday showers force rain draw

The wet weather on the morning of Sunday, November 23, forced a rain draw in the Eastern Premier League encounter between Brakpan’s United Cricket Club and Benoni Northerns Cricket Club, at Hosking Park.

Just seven deliveries were bowled before the heavens opened and forced skippers Justin Gamble (United) and Kurt Francis (Benoni Northerns) to shake hands and call off the game.

It was disappointing for the United team, who had a bye last weekend and who were looking to bounce back from a narrow defeat by Duduza the weekend before that.

However, a number of United’s Premier XI players featured in a 156-run win away to Springs Old Boys, in the club’s Saturday First League match, on November 22.

Gamble, batting at three for the Saturday First XI, was the star with the willow on Saturday.

He scored 70 runs to help set up a target of 206 runs to win for the Springs opposition.

United ensured a demolition job with the ball when they bowled Springs out for 49 in the 15th over.

Dylan Rayner shone with the leather and picked up a five-wicket haul with figures of 5/23 in six overs.

  • The Premier League XI will be hoping that the skies are clear for their tussle with Springs Old Boys at Hosking Park on Sunday, November 30, while the Premier Reserve team host Benoni Northerns on the same day.

The Saturday First Team will play Benoni on November 29.
