‘Panne’ continue to play cricket with opponents
The Bosman Stadium is mostly always a happy hunting ground for the defending Valke Peregrine League champions, Brakpan Rugby Club.
The home ground of the ‘Panne’ first XV has, in the last two weeks, become something of a slaughterhouse for visiting teams and the signage at the stadium which reads “Welcome to the House of Pain” is a stern warning to their guests that there will be no mercy shown on the field of play.
The men in the green jerseys made this clear on Saturday, March 12, when they romped to yet another metaphorical cricket score, this time 108-3 against Nigel, following a 103-3 stroll in the park against Sasolburg the week prior at their home base.
This means that Panne have amassed a total of 211 points and a mind-blowing 31 tries in just two matches, 12 of which have been scored by their wingers.
Ashley Buchler converted nine of the 16 tries while Gido Horn bagged a try and knocked over an additional five conversions to take his points haul to nearly 50 in just two matches.
Last week it was the flying winger Leon “Sweef” Potgieter who was the star of the show with four tries while this week it was the turn of winger Juan Botha to dominate the scoring list as he dotted down on four occasions.
His colleague on the other wing Thinus Ueckermann ran over the opponents’ try-line three times to complete a hat-trick.
Jaco Lotter (two), Francois “Bones” Robbertse, JP Snyman, Dwane Morrison, Gido Horn, Theo Becker, Shaun Botes and Neil van der Walt completed the rout.
