Red hot drifting returns to Carnival
For the second consecutive year, Carnival City will host the final showdown in the hotly contested Supadrift Series.
Some of the most daring drifters will convene there on September 28 and 29 to test their mettle in the season finale.
“This is extreme motor sport action at it very best,” said Michelle Smith, Carnival City’s marketing manager.
“Expect fast cars, roaring engines and exhilarating skidding that will leave you gasping for breath. The Supadrift Series has great spectator value.”
According to Mikey Skelton, XS Promotions marketing director and co-founder of the SupaDrift Series, competition in the 2018 championship is stiff.
“Expect some close tandems and some insane driving right up to the prize-giving,” he said.
“This year’s championship is probably the most tightly contested ever.
“It’s going to set the precedent for next season.”
Monster Energy-sponsored Jason Webb, who has won four out of four Supadrift events so far, sets the benchmark for the finals, but, with talented drivers, such as KwaZulu-Natal driver, Gavin Puren, in the mix, anything can happen.

He said he knows he has to make it count on the blacktop on the 29th (competition day).
Other drivers like Zanil Satar stand a chance to be on the podium after the final event.
He said: “No-one can afford to rest.
“It’s the most competitive drift season yet and anything can happen.
“The current track layouts are so challenging and therefore we will have to be on point to impress the judges and keep the competition at bay.”
Eric ‘the Viking’ van Eyssen has also rocked the drift boat this year and is pushing hard for a podium finish in his S14 Nissan 2JZ powered beast.
“It all comes down to the final race.
“Everyone has something to prove, especially those vying for championship wins and those wanting to keep their sponsors happy for a 2019 deal,” said the Viking.
The event also stages the Riaz Alibhai Cup, a trophy given to the winner of the day’s event in memory of a once talented and fierce competitor.
Riaz and his nephew Aqil passed away in a tragic motor vehicle accident in 2015.
