Booysen battles hard for fifth at Youth Olympics
Brakpan Wrestling Club’s Fernando Booysen was in Youth Olympic Games wrestling action on October 14.

The 16-year-old Hoërskool Hugenote learner competed in Group A of the men’s 48kg freestyle category at the Games in Buenos Aries, Argentina.
The teenager was the only South African wrestling representative at the Games and was determined to return to his country with a medal around his neck.
Unfortunately, for Booysen, it was not to be as the wrestler could only muster a fifth overall position.

He lost his first match on technical superiority (10-0) to Umidjon Jalolov of Uzbekistan and was again defeated on technical superiority (10-0) to Halil Jalolov of Turkey.

Booysen then competed in the face-off for fifth and sixth and he finished fifth when beating Daizel Detudamo of Nauru on technical superiority (10-0).
Although there was not a medal this time the youngster would have gained much-needed international experience and knowledge.
