Mandela not in a ‘vegetative state’
The presidency has denied rumours stating that former president Nelson Mandela is in a vegetative state.
The presidency had to deny rumours, after media reports stated that the ailing former statesman was, “in a permanent vegetative state and is assisted in breathing by a life support machine”.
“Former President Mandela has been and remains under the care of a multi-disciplinary panel of South African medical experts drawn from the South Africa Military Health Services, the public sector, the universities and the private sector”, the presidency said
Mandela was hospitalised on June 8, after falling ill from a recurring lung infection. His condition is said to be critical but stable.
