Titanic replica docks at Mall@Carnival

Africa’s biggest RMS Titanic replica, the TINTANIC, will be at Mall@Carnival until the end of April.

The creator of the replica, Gino Hart (34), who hails from Villiers in the Free State, recently started his tour for the exhibition of TINTANIC after spending three years building it.

The ship derives its name from the material from which it is mostly made – tin.

Gino had hundreds of visitors viewing his creation at the Mall@Carnival over the Easter weekend.

The ship is currently the biggest replica in Africa and is the fourth largest in the world.

It boasts 4 000 rooms, a swimming pool, squash court and first-class lounges.

Gino also built 1 523 mannequins symbolising the number of people who died during the sinking of RMS Titanic.

He still has to build the third-class rooms and add the other finishing touches – a task that will take several years.

“I built Tintanic to show other people that it is always possible to follow your dreams,” Gino explained.

“It was built through sponsorships as I did not have the money to do it on my own.”

Events commemorating the anniversary of the sinking of RMS Titanic, which took place on April 15, 1912, will take place at Mall@Carnival this weekend.

Members of the TINTANIC Club, History Club and the Rotary Club will attend in clothing from the period and there will also be a surprise guest.

A moment of silence will be held.

Gino will be travelling month from month to different malls across South Africa.
