Gun-wielding men terrorise Leachville family during house robbery

Two gunmen tied up a homeowner and ransacked a Leachville house before fleeing with electronics, clothing and bank cards.

A quiet evening turned into a nightmare for a Leachville family after armed robbers targeted their Sudwala Avenue home on May 23.

According to police information, the husband left the residence at about 18:45 to go to the shops, leaving his wife and children at home.

He returned about 20 minutes later and was surprised to find the sitting room lights switched off.

As he approached the passage, a man suddenly appeared and pointed a firearm at him, ordering him to lie down.

Another gunman then appeared. The victim heard the pair speaking in isiZulu, saying: “This is not the man we are looking for.”

The robbers removed the laces from the victim’s boots and tied him up. They stole two cellphones and bank cards before demanding the PINs for the phones.

The robbers then proceeded to ransack the house, taking a television, soundbar speakers, a 9kg gas bottle, an air fryer, a wristwatch, jewellery, shoes, clothing, blankets and other household items.

Before fleeing, the robbers switched off the bedroom light and left the family inside the house. A case of house robbery is under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
