The police in Carletonville are investigating a case of malicious damage to property after an SUV was set alight in Deelkraal.

As far as could be determined, the incident took place in Hendrik Potgieter Road on April 2.

A resident was woken up by a noise outside his home at about 03:00.

He rushed outside to see that his vehicle, a Ford EcoSport, was burning.

The vehicle, valued at approximately R300 000, was damaged beyond repair.

Police later discovered that the vehicle had been torched with a petrol bomb.
