Planned electricity shutdown to affect Welverdiend and Khutsong tomorrow January 29

Areas including Welverdiend, Elijah Barayi, Welverdiend Ext 6, Khutsong Ext 5, and electrical Rings 1–3 in Khutsong will be affected as the municipality upgrades the network to improve supply reliability.

The Merafong City Local Municipality is planning a big electricity shutdown at the Frikkie van der Merwe substation outside Welverdiend for today, January 29.

According to the municipality’s plans, the shutdown will start at 08:00 and continue until 18:00. “The planned outage is required to facilitate the commissioning of a new 5 MVA transformer. This forms part of the Municipality’s ongoing electricity network upgrades aimed at improving supply reliability and increasing system capacity,” said the municipal manager, Dumisani Mabuza, in a public notice.

Except for Welverdiend, areas such as the Elijah Barayi mega housing complex, the Welverdiend Extension 6 informal housing area, Khutsong Extension 5, and the electrical Ring 1, 2, and 3 in Khutsong will be affected.

Residents and businesses are advised to treat all electrical installations as live during the outage period and to make the necessary precautionary arrangements.

The municipality apologised for any inconvenience caused by the rescheduling and appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation while this essential work is carried out.
