Hijackers kidnap man in Carletonville

Police are investigating the incident, which highlights ongoing safety concerns in the area.

A 45-year-old man had a harrowing experience after being hijacked while driving his employer’s bakkie in Carletonville. The incident happened at around 18:30 on February 3 as the man was heading home in an Isuzu Club Cab along Railway Street.

While driving near the railway houses, he was suddenly boxed in by two VW Polos that forced him to a halt. Several armed men, speaking Sesotho, jumped out of the vehicles and pointed guns at the driver. The gang forced the man into one of their cars before speeding away from the scene.

After a terrifying ordeal, the kidnappers eventually drove the victim to Zuurbekom, near Westonaria, where they dropped him off unharmed later that night. Police are investigating the hijacking, but no arrests have been made yet.
