Kasi Jam Sessions kicked off in Khutsong

Hosted during The Creative Corner with KGEE, the live platform brings together local musicians, poets and performers to showcase their talents, promote collaboration and create opportunities aimed at fighting unemployment, crime and substance abuse through art.

The much-anticipated creative platform, Kasi Jam Sessions, officially kicked off in Khutsong Township on Thursday, 12 February. The session took place at the Merafong 360 Online Radio Station during an afternoon drive-time show called The Creative Corner, hosted by radio presenter KGEE.

The platform has been hosting local creatives for interviews while showcasing their talents, and the Kasi Jam Sessions are an extension of the radio show where artists are invited in groups to perform together live on air. The aim of the sessions is to encourage local creatives, create exposure and forge collaborations among artists.

According to the host, the vision of the sessions is to create a culture of appreciation for local art and to cultivate a spirit of support for upcoming artists in order to fight crime and substance abuse. He further stated that many young people seek escape from depression through art, but due to a lack of platforms and recognition, they become victims of negative influences.

“The youth need to express themselves through artistic mediums, and the sessions are the beginning of a creative revolution where artists can work together towards fighting unemployment and poverty through art,” he expressed.

The recent session received a positive response on social media, reigniting excitement among creatives. Local rappers such as Stevie G, Iamonedar, Roxtar Steven, Lxrd Beerus and Slack Tee, all from Khutsong Township, were featured. The platform welcomes all genres and is open to both established and upcoming artists around Merafong.

The journey has begun, and the sessions will take place every Thursday from 17:00 to 19:00. Listeners can tune in through Facebook via Merafong 360 Radio, where they can find the link to the online station. The sessions are also broadcast live on Facebook and recorded for future reference, with uploads planned for the YouTube channel Vibez Nation TV.

According to the presenter, the goal of the sessions is to identify and unify talented artists and eventually evolve from radio into live events hosted at various venues and spaces. The long-term vision includes shows, concerts and festivals that will create sustainability, livelihoods and boost the local economy.

The platform will host artists, poets, vocalists, musicians and comedians, with listening sessions planned for producers and DJs. For more information, contact 071 139 7840 or visit Merafong 360 Radio on Facebook.
