Only a few days left to apply to vote elsewhere

Everything for the upcoming elections are in place in Merafong.

Merafong residents who are planning to apply to vote in a different voting station or a different province through Section 24 of the Electoral Act, have to do so within the next week.

According to the IEC these applications can only be done between 15 to 17 May 2024.

The National and Provincial Elections will be held on the 29 May. Merafong has 76 voting stations in total, of which 17 are temporary stations and 59 are buildings where residents can vote. These buildings include churches, schools and magistrate courts.

The Merafong City Local Municipality will support the smooth running of the elections through grass cutting, grading of roads and waste management where there will be temporary voting stations. The special votes for those community members who have applied, will be cast through two days before the general election day, on 27 and 28 May.

The Local Joint Operation Centre will be activated for the election. This includes Municipal Public Safety officials and the SAPS, and will ensure safety of the community during the election period.

The Code of Conduct for political parties by the Municipal Electoral Officer have been shared with them to ensure the dos and don’ts during the Election Activity. This seeks to minimise clashes and disputes by political party leaders and/or members.
