Damaged power pole in Kokosi poses major risk

Many people will be without electricity if this pole should fall.

A damaged pole on which major electricity lines are resting in Kokosi has still not been repaired.

The Herald reported in October 2024 that the tar pole in the open ground behind the new Kokosi library is split down the middle after it was damaged in a fire. This pole is situated at a critical spot and carries electrical cables of more than one area of Kokosi.

Despite several complaints to the Merafong City Local Municipality, they have, however, still not replaced this crucial piece of infrastructure.

“We have had a lot of rain, which creates even a bigger possibility that this pole can collapse. The lines on top of this pole are connected to four separate transformers and can cause these to explode if the electrical lines should touch when the pole falls,” an informed and very concerned resident complains

He further noted that it will not cost a lot to replace the damaged tar pole, but the municipality will have to spend a large amount of money to fix the ensuing damage.

Many residents will also be without electricity for some time.

Although the Herald again notified the municipality’s marketing and communication manager, Temba Fezani, about the problem and asked for a comment from the municipality, no response was received by printing time.
