Sewage floods open land near Khutsong Police Station
A major sewage leak near the Khutsong Police Station has flooded open land next to a busy intersection, raising health and safety concerns for pedestrians and motorists.
Over the past week, open land across the road from the Khutsong Police Station has transformed into a health hazard as streams of sewage flood the area.
Residents first spotted the mess near the business hive, and closer inspection on August 10 revealed the filth was gushing from at least one overflowing manhole.
By 13:00, large parts of the open ground were completely submerged by sewage.
The severe leaks sit right beside one of Khutsong’s busiest crossings.
While traffic lights once managed the junction, they have been broken for so long that drivers now treat the busy spot as a four-way stop by default.
Although there are no houses nearby, scores of pedestrians regularly walk right past the contaminated zone.
The Merafong City Local Municipality failed to respond to questions regarding the crisis.
