Graves in Kokosi at Fochville covered in rubbish

The rubbish problems in this area have been continuing for years.

Ongoing issues with the removal of rubbish in a section of Kokosi have led to other problems.

Residents in the area of the old graveyard next to Kokosi Ext 99 have been complaining for years about massive heaps of rubbish. The reason is that the municipality never provided wheelie rubbish bins to the most of hese residents.

The municipality also does not regularly remove rubbish in this area.

Although municipal contractors removed the huge rubbish heaps at the entrance to the graveyard within the past few weeks and placed large metal bins at the site, nothing was done about the rubbish in the graveyard itself.

So much rubbish has been dumped there, or has blown into the graveyard over time, that some graves at the back of the facility are completely covered in rubbish. In other places, rubbish has been lying at the side of the graveyard for so long that grass has started to grow over it.

The Herald asked the municipality’s marketing and communication manager, Temba Fezani, for feedback on October 5, but received no comments on the matter by printing time.
