From the editor: Herald ready for big new things

The Carletonville and Fochville Herald is, as always, moving together with the times.

Since the newspaper started in 1954 when reporters typed stories on their typewriters, the Herald has brought important news from the area to the readers’ attention.
In the 1990s, the old typewriters made way for computers, which seemed to be incredibly new and modern at the time.
Although many readers still prefer their weekly copy of the Herald in print, the newspaper has also started distributing news on the Internet and social media over the past decade. Through the years, it has also moved office several times. Although it originally started in a house in Oberholzer, the offices have moved to various other buildings, among others, in Flint Street in Carletonville. The newspaper has occupied its current office in the Tereneure Building in Kaolin Street behind the Carletonville Post Office since the 1990s.
Now, we are ready for yet another positive change that will prepare us to move into the fourth industrial revolution. For the past two months, the Covid-19 lockdown has seen employees of MooiVaal Media, including the Herald, working from home. This has worked so well that the company, like several others around the world, has decided to let its staff work from home permanently.
This will not take the newspaper or its staff away from its advertisers and newsmakers; it will bring them closer to the community instead. The personnel will move around more frequently as no one will be office-bound anymore.
Anyone who wishes to contact the Herald for news can phone or email the editor, Adele Louw, at 083 722 2014 or adele.louw@mooivaalmedia.co.za.
Those who want to spread the word about their businesses or products can contact the advertising representatives, Ronell Potgieter at 073 291 8501 or Ronell.Potgieter@media24.com, or Liz Berry, at 082 627 9071 or Liz.Berry@mooivaalmedia.co.za.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
