Zamas attack housing project

The Elijah Barayi mega-housing project also became the scene of an armed attack this week.

The Carletonville police say criminals struck this site outside Welverdiend on 20 September.
A security guard was on duty at the gate to the project when a gang of about five illegal miners stormed his guard room at 23:14.
One of the zama-zamas shot him in the hip.
They then stole his cell phone, security radio and his bag containing personal items, including keys.
The attackers tied him up with wire and left him there.
The guard managed to get help to call the police and an ambulance. He was taken to Carletonville Hospital.
The five attackers, whom the police believe to be Lesotho nationals, are still on the run.
