Merafong to start upgrading prepaid meter software
The Merafong City Local Municipality will start a Token Identifier (TID) Compliance rollover project that entails the software update on all pre-paid electricity and water meters on 1 December.
The software on all these meters in South Africa will expire on 24 November 2024. If your pre-paid meter is not updated by then, you will not be able to recharge and will be without electricity and water supply until the meter software is updated.
According to the acting municipal communications and marketing manager, Ms Nomonde Mahube, the updating of metering software will happen in phases across the municipal area, with the first phase starting on Friday, 1 December. This phase will continue until 31 December, and residents of Pretoriusrus (Ward 17) and Oberholzer (Ward 18) in Carletonville will be the first to receive software update codes.
Phase 2 will run from 1 to 31 January 2024, and pre-paid customers of Ward 21 in Fochville will receive the software update codes.
“Merafong appeals for cooperation and requests residents to allow and grant the appointed service provider and our officials access to their properties during the implementation of the project. Customers who do not reside in these areas are not eligible yet and will not receive the codes until the scheduled update. She added that residents will not lose the units already loaded when the software on their meters is updated. However, if they have tokens or vouchers that are not loaded or used yet, they must load them before the software is updated, otherwise, they will lose those units as the token or voucher cannot be refunded.
