Merafong ignoring water leaks

Despite Carletonville being situated on dolomitic ground and owing Rand Water millions, the Merafong City Local Municipality is still not paying due attention to water leaks.

The resident of 1 Boundary Street on the far eastern side of Carletonville has complained about an on-and-off water leak on his sidewalk for months. The water leaked at the site before, but the municipality fixed the problem early this year. However, it started leaking from the sidewalk again shortly after the municipal workers left.
The Herald asked Merafong about the issue on 4 July.
“The municipality will repair the valve leak as soon as the material is delivered,” the municipal spokesperson replied. A week later, however, water still flowed down the road from the same leak.
Meanwhile, water also leaked from sites of old leaks on Reinecke Street, Dolomite Drive, Bluebell Road and Aster Drive, among others.
