Three life sentences for rapist

A man who raped three young girls was meted out three life sentences for his horrendous crimes by the Modimolle Regional Court on Wednesday 10 April.

Tinos Chimedze (35), originally from Zimbabwe, was accused that he raped three girls, aged between 10 and 11 years, in 2022 in Modimolle’s Extention 13, known as the Jasper informal settlement.

The authorities got wind of the crimes when someone at a victim empowerment facility alerted them that all was not well with the children. Following the crimes, Chimedze sent the three girls to a victim empowerment facility to ask for food. The founder of the facility became suspicious when the accused left the victims. When she spoke to the girls, they told her what happened.

Chimedze was convicted and sentenced to three life imprisonment for three counts of rape. The sentences will run concurrently.
