Idols runner-up Mthokozisi Ndaba refuses to do post-show interview

Paxton Fielies was crowned Idols SA winner during an intense finale on Sunday night.

The 17-year-old with a big voice stole the judges and viewers hearts during the show, and was a favourite to take the title.

She was up against KwaMashu’s Mthokozisi Ndaba during the two-hour live finale.

More than 98-million votes were cast during season 13 – a first for the singing competition.

Over 30-million votes were cast last week alone, but we will only get to know in a few weeks how many votes separated Paxton and Mthokozisi.

Not only did Paxton win bragging rights as winner of Idols SA, but she also walked away with R1.1-million in cash, a record deal, and a brand spanking new car – among other things!

Despite Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe hogging Twitter’s trending list on Sunday, Idols SA created major buzz on social media.

But Paxton wasn’t the only contestant who made headlines on the night. Runner-up Mthokozisi caused a stir when he failed to show up for a post-show interview.

According to reports, he refused to attend the interview, leaving his seat on the panel empty.

Idols SA officials said the Mthokozisi was composing himself after his loss.

He failed to show up at all, creating another first for the show as no runner-up has not pitched for a post-show interview in the history of the competition.

Mthokozisi’s story on Idols captured South Africans’ hearts, and gave triumphing over adversity new meaning.

The 25-year-old, who was orphaned at 14, was shot in a home robbery after winning a golden ticket at the Durban auditions.

But he showed up for Theatre week with a limp, and powered on without any complaints.
