Jukebox Thursday: Why Zahara stays winning

Bulelwa Mkutukana, best known by her stage name Zahara, has released a new album titled Country Girl and it is a hit.

We know her from her early days of Loliwe, a song which took the South African music industry by storm, and winning her the South African Music Award for Best Female Artist, amongst other awards.

However, things have not been easy for Zahara as she has been plagued by many rumours, with some claiming she was broke and her house was about to be repossessed. In recent weeks, the rumour mill also said she was struggling with alcohol after she was reportedly dumped by her boyfriend.

Last year, it was reported that her brother, Mbuyiseli, was shot dead and his body was found 3km from his home village of Phumlani.

Again, earlier this year, another rumour came out, saying TS records had dropped her. The songstress simply shut all this misinformation with an Instagram post saying she was in studio working on her new album which she would release later this year.

All these rumours did not bring this Country Girl down, instead she kept on fighting. In this week’s edition of Jukebox Thursday, in celebration of this strong woman, we give you five of Zahara’s best, and a bonus from her latest album.
