SA’s Got Talent: DJ Fresh ‘eats a humble pie’

Team Gravity Core, a group that auditioned in 2013 came back to try their luck. Their act was flawless. “I feel like a little girl today,” Lala said.  “It’ a yes from me, make it count,” Shado said. Although Shado and Lala were impressed, the same can’t be said for Fresh. “Where else can you take it for half a million rand?” Fresh asked.

The 31 year old Mickey tried to sing her way into the competition. She did not sound pleasing to the ear, especially to Fresh. “Totally underwhelmed…it’s a no from me,” he said. “It’s a yes from me,” Shado said.

Fresh kind of looked dozed off for almost the entire show but the “speed painters”, Paint Addiction, woke him up. This comes after Fresh buzzed them off when they were still in the early stage of their act. He could not help but say “I’m gonna eat a humble pie and say I was wrong…that was fantastic”. “It’s like magic,” Shado said. “My hat’s off to you guys,” Lala added. Paint Addiction surprised Fresh with his own specially painted portrait. They got three yeses!

Sizile Mbombo, who actually thought he could sing, sounded nothing like a singer. “I kept on saying to you on the beginning of the show, smile, maybe the song would have gone much better,” Shado said. “A smile won’t fix that,” Fresh disagreed with Shado. Sizile took home some no’s with him.

15 year old Tsholofelo aimed to please the judges with her poetic skills. She did a bit well for a 15 year old but not enough to receive three yeses from the judges.

Joe-Slovo Finis, a singer, also struggled to impress. “One thing you definitely have is tons of personality,” Lala said. All the judges gave her a no.

A lot of singers came through but they could not quite impress. However, Amanda was a healing voice for the judges’ ears. She sounded wonderful. “Captivating voice…uhm, you took me by my hand,” Fresh said. “I think it is absolutely beautiful,” Shado added. She got three easy yeses.

Gravity tried to wow the judges, they were actually sure they would. Shado and Fresh were taken by the performance but Lala wasn’t. “Gravity, it’s going to be a no,” Lala said. “It’s a yes from me” Shado said. “I’m gonna toss a yes at you,” Fresh said with a satisfied tone.

A 22 year old baker tried to win the judges over with his voice. Unfortunately, it was a dead end. “I think you should sing it while the pizza is in the oven,” Shado said. He took three baked nos with him.

Tanya Vilance sang her way to the judges’ hearts. “Quite honestly, I didn’t know what to expect,” Shado added. They gave her three yeses.

Stand-up comedian Mum-Z put on a wonderful show for everyone. The audience and judges burst in laughter. “Listen, I loved you,” Shado said. “From one coconut to another, I’m gonna give you a yes,” Fresh said. “I wanna see more man, it’s a yes,” Lala said. He got three yeses.

Genevieve won the judges’ hearts by singing her own heart out. “Genevieve, I am so glad you came on SA’s Got Talent,” Shado said. “Genevieve, bipolar has lost, you are brave” Fresh said. All the judges gave her the golden buzz.
