Scorpion Kings team up with gin and tonic brand for exclusive amapiano playlist

DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small have an exclusive amapiano playlist with premium gin and tonic brand Black Crown.

Celebrating international Gin and Tonic Day, which was on 19 October, Black Crown Gin & Tonic has collaborated with amapiano heavyweights DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small, the duo known as Scorpion Kings, for a playlist.

The announcement was made at Bryanston Rooftop on Tuesday, with beautifully curated African art on display by David Blaq, Great Joy and Themba Mbuyisa, a statement read.

The brand says backing other African brands and artists is a way to break boundaries.

“Like it takes a village to raise a child, it took a diverse and passionate team of brewers, marketers and supply chain specialists, among others, to produce Black Crown. Partnering with African legends for success is therefore who we are and what we do,” says general manager for Black Crown, Claudia Schmid.

Black Crown says their partnership with Scorpio Kings is a way for them to exclusively have an amapiano playlist from the duo on Spotify, one of the many ways to bring music and G&T together.

Scorpion Kings are at the forefront of the amapiano genre in South Africa and the continent.

“Black Crown unapologetically celebrates African pride, and so intends to continue inspiring young Africans to remain authentic and grounded,” Gugu Dlamini, marketing lead for Black Crown, said.

Black Crown is relatively new on the market, with the premium gin and tonic mix entering the market in 2020. It is the result of an initiative by South African Breweries’ (SAB’s) innovation hub, ZX Ventures, which gives opportunities to liquor startups.

Black Crown is now sold nationally and its taste is described as bursts of citrus blended into a sweet, crisp finish.

The Scorpion Kings playlist can be played on Spotify.
