Our top 7 Robin Williams movies…what are yours?

From chuckles to tears, comedian and actor Robin Williams has entertained audiences for generations, so narrowing down the movies we'll best remember him for is a tough one. But we'll give it a shot...

1) Good Morning, Vietnam

Arguably one of Williams most energised and recognised performances, which won him the Golden Globe award for best actor. Williams plays a radio DJ who arrives in Saigon to give American soldiers a dose of laughter and enrage his superiors along the way. His character is witty and fast and Williams makes the character his own with his unique sense of comedy and acting.

2) Dead Poets Society

It is no surprise that Williams who plays John Keating was nominated for an Oscar his role in Dead Poets Society as he enters a very conservative school to teach. Keating, with his own unusual style of teaching that not only entertains but lights  a burning passion for literature inside his students.

3) The Fisher King

Another great movie, another Oscar nomination, as Williams plays a homeless man who becomes a radio shock-jock’s hope for redemption. A brilliant performance by Williams, but it wasn’t enough to earn him the coveted golden man just yet.

4) Mrs Doubtfire

The man of many voices – and costumes it seems – enthralled the family in what was possibly ( at least in terms of the box office) his biggest lead role, playing a housekeeper to his ex-wife and kids.

5) Jumanji

A game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind. You roll the dice to move your token. Doubles gets another turn. Jumanji took the audience on a non-stop ride through the perils of a very demanding board game, complete with monkeys, stampedes and crazed hunters. You either loved it or hid behind your cushion, but one things for sure you couldn’t forget it.

6) Good Will Hunting

Williams won an Oscar for best supporting actor in Good Will Hunting where he plays a psychologist who is tasked to help a very talented individual (Matt Damon) come to terms with his life and future.

Williams touching, humorous acceptance speech when he finally took hold of that elusive Oscar in 1998 is worth including here.

7) Aladdin

Williams put his ‘many voices’ to good use in a variety of animated movies, including the Happy Feet movies, but the one he’ll probably be best remembered for is the wise-cracking Genie in Disney’s Aladdin.
