Trouble brewing at Generations

Some top actors of South African soapie Generations are at loggerheads with the show's executive producer Mfundi Vundla over their new contracts.

The City Press reported on Sunday that the actors have appointed a lawyer to negotiate on their behalf after Vundla gave them one-year contracts that did not come with wage increases.

Among those involved in the dispute are Sophie Ndaba who plays Queen, Katlego Danke who plays Dineo, Menzi Ngubane who plays Sibusiso, Anga Makubalo who plays MJ, Thami Mnqolo who plays Senzo, and Xolisa Xalavu who plays Jason.

Vundla confirmed the dispute, saying actors asking for longer contracts meant he would give up his right of writing out actors who were not performing.

He told City Press he had enough episodes to go on without the actors who were involved in the dispute if the matter could not be resolved.

An unnamed insider told City Press that the trouble stemmed from SABC acting chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s announcement at the soapie’s 20th birthday celebrations that the station had signed a three-year contract with Vundla’s company.

The cast then hoped they would also get extended contracts and wage increases.
