Zenani thanks U2 for steadfast support

Nelson Mandela's daughter Zenani has expressed her gratitude to rock band U2 for their unyielding support of her father and his humanitarian initiatives.

U2 recently hosted an American screening of ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ at the Ziegfield Theatre in New York, alongside American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Zenani Mandela-Dlamini, who attended the screening, thanked Bono and his band for writing one of the songs on the soundtrack.

“I am pleased that U2 have written this beautiful song, Ordinary Love, for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” she said, according to website ScreenAfrica.

“Bono and the band have been supporters of my father and the 46664 campaign for many years and I am delighted that they hosted the screening tonight together with Anna Wintour.”

The screening was also attended by cast members Idris Elba and Naomie Harris, director Justin Chadwick, and South African producer Anant Singh.

“We thank Zenani for representing the South African team at the screening last night,” said Singh.

“The venue of The Ziegfeld Theatre is of special significance to us and to Zenani as she was with Madiba when he was the guest of honour at the benefit screening of Cry, The Beloved Country for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund which took place there eighteen years ago”

The much anticipated Nelson Mandela biopic is set for nationwide release in South Africa on Thursday, 28 November.
