The residents of Elsburg are concerned about the state of the pavements in Brug Street.
They are currently in such a poor state of repair that the children from Laerskool Elsburg and Hoërskool Elsburg, as well as pedestrians in the area, cannot walk on them.
Residents feel that the condition of the pavements is endangering people’s lives, as they are forced to walk on the busy streets.
A number of residents and the local stores have reported the matter to the metro, with no results.
“It is absolutely disgusting,” said William Fletcher.
“The trenches were dug, for one or other reason, over three months ago, and since then have just been left open.
“People have to walk in the street because they can’t walk on the pavement; this is so dangerous for the children in the area.”
The GCN sent numerous queries to the metro to find out why the pavements were dug up and when they would be repaired and restored, but no comment had been received at the time of publication.
