Power outage blamed for opening delay

Why were residents left waiting?

As many people made their way to work on Thursday morning, a number of residents were left waiting outside the Primrose Rates Office.

The offices are located on the corner of Sunflower Road and Lupin Avenue, in Primrose and the offices hours, clearly on display on an office window, state that they should open at 8.15am each morning (Monday to Friday).

However, residents on scene claim that on more than one occasion the offices have opened well after 9am.

Thursday was one of those days.

Residents claimed that when they asked staff, who were seated outside the office, what was happening they were met by rudeness and unclear answers and excuses.

After over an hour of waiting, they were finally able to enter at 9.20am.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro responded to the GCN’s queries with the following statement:

“The Primrose pay point experienced electricity supply problems from Wednesday, November 26, when power went off at around 2pm.

“The matter was reported to the energy department and was resolved on Thursday morning.

“Before they could open for customers, staff had to balance the work done for Wednesday.

“The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused.”
