EMPD recovers suspected stolen truck after security alert

A smart camera alert and swift coordination between private security and EMPD officers led to the recovery of a truck in Petit, with two suspects arrested.

The EMPD Northern Region Task Team has recovered a truck in Durant Street, Petit, following an alert generated by a street surveillance camera.


According to the EMPD, the vehicle was initially detected by a smart camera, with the information immediately relayed to a private security company.


EMPD members responded swiftly and traced the truck to a yard in Durant Street, where it was found parked.

Two male suspects were intercepted and charged with possession of suspected stolen property.

“The truck has been secured while further investigations are under way to establish its ownership and determine its status,” said EMPD Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa.

The EMPD commended the use of smart technology and cooperation between law enforcement and private security companies in efforts to combat crime.

The department said the incident highlighted the value of integrated technology and partnerships in assisting law enforcement agencies to respond to criminal activity.
