Two bank card-swopping swindlers nabbed in Primrose

Card-swopping swindlers caught in Primrose.

A vehicle causing an obstruction at the intersection of Rietfonetin and Poppy roads caught the attention of Metro Police officers, last Saturday, at 2.30pm.

The vehicle contained two male occupants, who seemed to be engaged in an argument.

The EMPD officer decided to bide his time and observe them.

While the lone officer was watching the situation, one of the occupants rushed to the nearby Absa ATM, where he was seen fiddling with the machine for longer than was deemed necessary.

The officer then confronted the two men and found them to be in possession of numerous bank and SASSA cards, R1 000 in cash and a device used to obtain information from bank cards, known as a “grap”.

The two suspects, who are both in their early 50s, admitted to having swopped the cards outside Ekurhuleni.

They were expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court on August 26, on charges of possession of stolen bank cards.
