SA Teacher has once again been rewarding pupils for their hard work in mathematics.
At the recent event 120 pupils in Grade Four, Five, Six and Seven from 90 schools in the Ekurhuleni South region were awarded certificates of achievement for attaining 80 per cent or more in mathematics.
The event was held at Alston Primary School in Leondale and to make the occasion more special Mark and Michael Gouveia from Southern Spar in Germiston and Alston Primary donated food and beverages for the 120 pupils and 300 teachers in attendance.
The store also supplied a beautiful cake in celebration of the children’s achievements.
Each of the children was also gifted a stationery pack donated by George and Alta Pappers from My Spar in Leondale.
The pupils were delighted with the gift.
The 120 pupils will now compete in a final round in October, where they will write an examination, which will be marked by SA Teacher coaches on the day and then the top five in each grade will be given recognition immediately and awarded medals at the event.
Tom Shupikai, a mathematics coach from SA Teacher said the organisation is continuing with their vision of making sure that by the end of 2014 each and every pupil in Grade Four, Five, Six and Seven will be achieving 60 per cent or more in mathematics.
“We are well on track and since we began the project in 2012 we have been the top district in Gauteng and second in the country at national level with regards to mathematics,” Tom said.
Tom thanked the two Spars for coming on board and giving back to the community.
He added that if it wasn’t for the directors of SA Teacher, Dreyer Lotter and Liezel Bloom, and the entire management team, the project would not be the success it is.
