Elsburg man arrested for attempted murder

Man arrested for attempted murder in Elsburg.

The Elsburg SAPS arrested a man on charges of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, in Tedstonville, last Sunday.

The 40-year-old was nabbed after allegedly shooting a man in the lower body.

The shooting came after the suspect filed a case of malicious damage to property against the victim.

While on patrol, the Germiston SAPS noticed a speeding Citi Golf and followed it to Elsburg.

They chased the vehicle until the driver pulled up at his home.

Just then the officers were approached by the shot man’s younger brother, who told them that there had been a shooting at the intersection of Egret and Vink streets.

As it was in the Elsburg SAPS’s area they were called to the scene.

The victim’s brother was able to identify the alleged shooter.

“Upon questioning the suspect confirmed that he had indeed shot the victim and claimed he had done this because police had not arrested the victim on the malicious damage to property charge, laid against him by the suspect,” said Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Germiston SAPS Cluster.

“The victim was accused of damaging the suspect’s car.

“The suspect then claimed that the victim and nine friends had come to his property again, after the charges had been laid, and that he had then chased after them and shot the victim.”

The man refused to show the police where he had hidden the weapon used to shoot the victim.

It was only when the K9 Unit was called in that the suspect admitted he had hidden the weapon in the water bowl of a toilet and the magazine in a dustbin.

Another firearm, along with four rounds of live ammunition and a used cartridge were found in a safe kept inside a cooler box.

Both the victim and suspect were arrested.

The victim was arrested on charges of malicious damage to property and was then taken to Tembisa Hospital, where will remain under police guard.
