If you, or someone you know is battling with a substance abuse problem, there is help at hand.
Transformation Halfway Houses (THH) is a group that has a few halfway houses in South Africa, and one is situated at 34 Rhodes Avenue, Parkhill Gardens.
The aim of THH is firstly to offer a safe/sober house suitable for people who are struggling with addictions.
Apart from this, the group also gets involved with the community.
THH is affiliated to the Freedom Recovery Centre (FRC), a well-established rehabilitation facility on the East Rand. FRC is also one of the only registered long term facilities in the country.
THH also works with other rehab centres on the East Rand, as the group offers a secondary care programme.
The Germiston halfway house offers an out-patient programme, testing centre and an in-patient programme at the house.
The programme helps people with structure, employment, reintegration, relapse prevention, financial planning and accountability.
Weekly support group meetings for parents and teens on substance abuse prevention and solutions are also held.
THH is dedicated to the entire recovery process from substance abuse.
The company was founded after the need arose for an effective after-care programme to help to reintegrate people into society once they had completed intense primary care treatment.
Great emphasis is placed on a unique Relapse Prevention Plan and Accountability Contract.
Each individual is accessed and a plan is formulated after discussing finances, curfews, employment, visitation and support structures with the person.
THH works with companies, sponsors and parents to allow a person the safety, support and benefit of being in a structured, managed environment.
Individual counselling, weekly progress reports, random drug testing and support groups which create the best possible environment for recovery are the norm.
Meetings (sharing and a topic discussion) in Germiston are held at 7pm on Mondays, at the halfway house, at 34 Rhodes Avenue, Parkhill Gardens, as well as drug testing.
On Wednesdays, at 7pm, the 12 Step programme is held, along with testing, at 7pm at the Elsburg Methodist Church.
