Members of the Germiston Flying Squad took to the streets on May 25, at about 10.10pm, after they received information that a truck may have been hijacked at the Engen garage, in Jack Street, Germiston.
The truck had a tracking device fitted and the officers went searching for it on the N3 and N12 highways, towards Isando, as the signal from the truck was in that vicinity.

The officers, with help from members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad, saw the truck and ordered the driver to stop on Barbara Road, near the R24 highway.
When the truck had stopped, the occupants were ordered to get out of the vehicle.
They were searched and secured before the police officers searched the truck.
To their surprise, they found the real driver of the truck bound with rope inside the truck.
He informed the police officers that he had been hijacked and that the suspects had a firearm.
A thorough search of the vehicle yielded the discovery of a 9mm pistol, with no serial number, hidden behind the driver’s seat.
The two suspects, aged 27 and 35, were arrested and taken to the Germiston Police Station.
They face charges of hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Communications officer for the Germiston SAPS, WO AndrĂ© de Jager, said: “Brig Phumla Mdlankomo, the Germiston cluster commander, congratulated WO Mark Woodley and Sgt Jacques Reynders for their efficient work.
“They were given certificates of appreciation for their outstanding police work.”
