Tzu-chi Foundation feeds the community

Tzu-chi Foundation host annual winter relief campaign.

The Buddhist compassion relief Tzu-chi Foundation, South Africa, hosted their annual food handover, which forms part of their winter relief efforts, on Sunday, May 25.

This year the Taiwan-based charity’s projects focused on the Marathon, Makause and Delport informal settlements and the organisation handed over rice, scarves and ear-muffs to an estimated 3 000 families.

The families, who were identified for the handover by volunteers, were issued with a form which they had to produce before receiving the supplies.

“This is an amazing project that takes place every year and helps our local communities greatly,” said Capt Patricia Fakude, of the Primrose Police.

“As a social crime prevention officer I see the benefits a project like this has in the community.

“It gives us an opportunity to interact with the community and to offer crime prevention tips.”
