Police bid farewell to long-serving policeman

Police officer retires after 42 years on the force.

Germiston SAPS Cluster commander Brig Phumla Mdlankomo congratulated and thanked Lieut-Col Johannes Fourie for all the years of loyal and committed service he has given to the South African Police Service.

Fourie retired from the force on January 31, after 42 years and 15 days of service.

He joined the police on January 16, 1973 and, after graduating from the police college, he was deployed to the Germiston Police Station.

Over the course of his time as a police officer Fourie did duty at a number of police stations on the East Rand.

He was promoted over the years and gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel on April 1, 2010.

“Brig Mdlankomo said farewell to Fourie on behalf of the SAPS and added that he hoped he will enjoy his retirement,” said WO André de Jager, communications officer for the Germiston SAPS.
