No load shedding predicted for this morning
Could another hike in electricity tariffs be on the cards?
Eskom has announced that no load shedding is planned for this morning as it has adequate generating capacity to meet the demand in electricity.
However, the power system is expected to be constrained in the evening peak period (5pm – 9pm) which could lead to load shedding being implemented.
This month, Eskom has managed to bring on two more units to the national grid, one from Koeberg and one from Medupi, but it’s still battled with electricity consumption with load shedding being implemented on a regular basis.
Acting CEO Brian Molefe will update the nation this morning (Wednesday) on the company’s winter plan and his future at the utility.
One of the hot topics to be discussed is a hike in electricity tariffs.
It has been reported that Eskom has applied for a 25.3 per cent hike, including a 12 per cent price increase which has already been approved.
