Carlyle turns another page in her career
Award winning YA author releases crime book under Bailey Quinn in the USA.
It has been a very busy year for local businesswoman and author Carlyle Labuschagne.
She has just returned from Nashville, in the USA, after attending the UtopYAcon convention, where she launched her latest book, Infallible, under the name Bailey Quinn.
This is Carlyle’s first crime book and it took her a year to write.
“It was one of my hardest books to write because of the genre and taking into consideration the fact that English is my second language and writing in the third person was a great challenge,” she said.
Carlyle also launched an anthology entitled Act of Bravery at UtopYAcon, under her own name.
She normally writes in the young adult genre, but decided to pursue the crime writing avenue as something different.
“For me it was all about escaping, sharing stories and creating a place where the reader can relate to and perhaps find some kind of wisdom and peace in knowing whatever situation they face they are never alone,” she said.
She is, however, still continuing in her main genre and currently she is writing two adult fantasy books for young adults.
UtopYAcon is a convention for writers of contemporary and supernatural YA (young adult) and NA (new adult) fiction and their fans.
This year was very special for Carlyle, as she was nominated for Utopian of the Year, an award which celebrates an author who inspires, uplifts and embodies the Utopiacon name.
The dynamic author is also extremely excited by a book signing trip to Paris in September.
She will be promoting all her books, which includes four novels, one novella and five anthologies.
“For now Paris is my peak in my career as an author, as a creative person and in my life,” Carlyle said.
“It’s an achievement made possible by everyone who has touched my life.”
Carlyle will also be launching Infallible at a special launch and book signing event at Skoobs Theatre of Books, at Monte Casino, on September 29, at 6.30m for 7pm.
She is extremely excited about this event.
Infallible is currently available in online stores and will hit the shelves in South Africa in the next two months.
