Five illegal taverns closed

The Primrose police continue to crack down on illegal taverns in the Makause and Marathon informal settlements.

Alcohol-related crimes continue to be a problem in Primrose’s informal settlements, according to the Primrose police.

In an effort to stop the illegal sale of alcohol the officers from the Primrose Police Station held a special operation recently.

The operation saw five illegal taverns closed down and thousands of litres of alcohol confiscated in the Makause and Marathon informal settlements.

“The officers identified the taverns while on a foot patrol of the area.

“Each suspected tavern was observed before police entered to ensure that alcohol was being sold,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The owners of the taverns, aged between 26 and 59, were arrested after they failed to produce their liquor licences.

They were taken to the Primrose Police Station where they paid an admission of guilt fine before being released on a warning.
