The EMPD By-Law Enforcement Unit, in conjunction with Urban Management officials, have embarked on a special operation targeting those who without authorisation display vehicles for sale on public roads, repair vehicles on pavements, as well as those who use residential spaces to spray-paint and panel-beat vehicles.
All the hotspots were first identified and between November 14 and 18 law enforcers swooped on their targets and 110 vehicles were towed away.
The EMPD’s first stop was in Germiston, Elsburg and Wadeville along Winnie Havelof, Mossie, Dekema, Rand, Knox Linton Jones, Meyer, Short, Simpson and Railway streets.
Sixty-five vehicles were confiscated in these areas.
The focus then moved to Boksburg, along Leeuwpoort and Cason streets, where 18 vehicles were towed away.
Next on the list was Springs with the hotspots along Ermelo, Lewis, Third Avenue, Springs and Nigel roads being targeted and 27 vehicles being impounded.
“The public is warned that any outdoor advertising, displaying of vehicles on our public roads and engaging in vehicle repairs in areas not zoned for business without approval is an offence.
“The EMPD shall not hesitate to come down heavily on those who commit such offences,” said Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD.
